AGA253/Studio/01 - Design Tabletop Games | Credits 3.00
Since the time of Mesopotamia with the Royal Game of Ur 4,600 years ago table top games (TTG) have been a part of the human experience. In this multi-disciplinary course students will explores the multiple layers of creative problem solving and research involved in the design of a tabletop (board or card) game. Students will learn to navigate the design and player experience considerations related to TTG creation including: illustration, graphic design, user interface, material choices, packaging, and more. The course will cover the game design process from beginning ideation and research to final production of a fully functional prototype, and emphasize a hands-on approach through physical crafting of TTG assets. The class will culminate in showcase of games in a live game testing environment. Course Objectives: - Explore and apply design principles to TTG in class project work - Engage in and articulate the ideation, research, and conceptual process for TTG - Construct a set of rules through technically writing skills. - Gain insight from working industry professionals through guest presentations. - Produce, pitch, and display physical working prototypes.
