FN116/Studio/03 - Drawing for Visual Communication | Credits 3.00
This course places an emphasis on improving the skills required for students entering art and design majors. Emphasis will be placed on both clothed and nude dynamic figure drawing and expressive anatomy. Students will also explore cinematic and narrative compositional methods and techniques to represent the figure and objects within space. Students continue to develop existing drawing skills with increased proficiency in perceptual drawing strategies to capture accurate perspective, proportion, and placement regarding still-life objects, interior spaces, and the human figure. Based on the scope of a student's projects or level of study there may be additional costs for materials and supplies. Course objectives: Students will use a variety of sighting techniques and drawing strategies (including quick gestural lines and thumbnail sketches) to capture the human figure in proportion from different points of view including full-figure, portrait, hands, and feet. • Students will develop an ability to execute and compose a clear foreground, middle ground, and background. • Students will be able to use value/tonal drawing to capture a range of values, demonstrate edge without the use of hard-lines and to show the direction of light. • Students will develop existing drawing skills to show increased proficiency in applying one point and two-point perspective principle to draw figures, objects and spaces from observation. • Students will generate field sketches created at locations outside of the studio and utilize these visuals to complete finished projects.
