IL311AOL/Studio/01 - Selected Topics: Illustrated Poster
|
Credits
3.00
Through words, image, and design, the illustrated poster has the ability to reach out and grab the attention of its chosen audience. An important function of the poster is the promotion of an event, and this 3 credit course will focus on the application of the illustrated poster for theatre, political, eco-awareness, altruistic/cause, and concert/music promotion. Over the course of the semester, students will receive a fundamental overview of a few key stylistic movements in the poster's 100-year history. Framed in their historical context, selected works will be examined to better understand how they reflect the social, political, and artistic issues of their time. With special emphasis placed on the relationship between words and image, students will analyze the graphic qualities that make these posters a visually arresting and highly communicative art form. With the knowledge and inspiration gained from these observations, students will create their own personal vision of the poster medium. Based on the scope of a student's project or level of study there may be additional costs for materials and supplies.
