2026 Spring Main Session
IL332/Studio/01 - Sequential Illustration & Personal Narra | Credits 3.00
Comics can be much more than a form of entertainment. Comics, and more recently, graphic novels, are a particularly potent tool for helping people tell their story. Using comics to address issues people normally flinch away from is perhaps one of their most powerful applications. Through both fictional and autobiographical characters, a comic enables an author to present narratives dealing with personal issues, conflicts, concerns, and experiences. Students will be encouraged to develop and illustrate a multiple page comic that addresses an issue or experience important to them. The shape the stories take visually will come from the student, guided by the instructor. Starting with introductory and disciplinary exercises, the concepts, language, and methods used in the creation of comic and sequential art will be introduced. Students will be allowed to work with traditional, digital or mixed media in creating their work.
