|
Credits
3.00
This course offers an introduction, and an exploration of traditional and experimental textile surface print design from concept to motif development, repeat-making, painting, and digital processes. This studio will be taught as a hybrid studio that integrates both mark making by hand, painting with water-based media, and digital tools for designing large-scale surface prints. The integration of knowledge and skills learned in this studio course will culminate into a digital textile print collection for art and design disciplines. This course emphasizes textile design industry standards, as well as a broad understanding of pattern and printed surface in contemporary art & design. Student textile print collections will be digitally printed on various materials including fabric, paper and products. Course objectives: 1. Students will demonstrate how to design painted motifs in repeat patterns using both analog techniques, and Photoshop & Illustrator software. 2. Students will analyze and research in order to create print design patterns inspired by historic and contemporary context. 3. Students will communicate ideas visually through illustrating and constructing different textile repeat structures and graphic imagery.
