2026 Fall Main Session
ED202/Open/01 - Engaging Students in Community Arts | Credits 3.00
between Moore students enrolled in the course, and a Philadelphia-based community organization that serves diverse populations, ages, and learners. In addition to building skills in community-based art processes (i.e. communication, planning, collaboration, mentorship, and leadership), students will also gain exposure to the national and local landscape of community-based art through academic discussion, research, and field trips to Philadelphia-based sites. Through this course, students will understand that community-based art education can occur in a variety of settings, and involve multiple art forms determined in conjunction with the partner organization and its constituents. Lastly, students will work towards developing sensitivities to and awareness of cultural, economic, environmental, political, and social issues common to community-based art education, and its role as a vehicle for change. Based on the scope of the semester project or level of study, there may be additional costs for materials and supplies. Satisfies: Major Requirement
