This course introduces students to the fundamentals of screenwriting, primarily focused on developing short-form films. Through workshops, presentations, discussions, and critique, students will learn the foundational concepts of visual storytelling while moving from idea inception to screen. Working through the building blocks of audience, purpose, theme, plot, story structure (including 3-act structure), character development, and dialogue, students will write screenplays that can be developed into short films in future classes. Upon gaining the knowledge of story formation and being equipped with these tools, students will have confidence to develop future long-form and serial works. Students will complete multiple short scripts.
