This course builds upon the fundamentals of screenwriting which were introduced in Screenwriting I. Students expand their understanding of screenwriting practice and format, dedicating themselves to a more ambitious commitment to writing. Class will focus on the technical and creative process of writing a screenplay including best practices, important conventions and when to break or challenge those conventions. With the support of readings, exercises, critiques, presentations, discussion and their own writing students will create a completed screenplay. Class will also discuss pitches, log-lines, treatments and other professional practice aspects of writing a professional screenplay Course objectives: -Devise and write a screenplay for a short film or pilot for a television show* -Implement the (exacting) formatting constrictions of creating a professional screenplay -Understand and discuss character development, 3 plot structure and pacing through writing and revision. -Interpret their own scripts and the scripts of their cohort through group critique and discussion of works in progress. -Analyze the work of other practitioners through screenings, readings and discussions.
