2026 Fall Main Session
GRCP200/Lecture/02 - GRCP: Atlantic Revolutions | Credits 3.00
This course will explore the revolutions of the Atlantic world from the late seventeenth century through the nineteenth century. Surveying England’s Glorious Revolution, Pontiac’s Native American Rebellion, the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions, and finally the nineteenth-century Latin American revolutions, we will examine the ideological, economic, and material forces that set these transformative processes in motion. Using art, literature, and music, this course will study how resistance movements and dissenting individuals have sought to claim back agency from traditional institutions and authority figures. Revolution theories will be applied to these political and social upheavals to understand their respective motivations, actions, and consequences.
