2026 Fall Main Session
ENT210/Lecture/01 - History of Design, Media and Technology | Credits 3.00
Moore College of Art & Design students who are Entertainment Design majors will take this class as part of their major requirements. This course presents a selection of key concepts in the history of design, media, and technology with a focus on innovation through readings from Walter Isaacson’s book, The Innovators. We will explore the idea of human beings as designers and makers, i.e. Homo Faber. Our early proto-human ancestors evolved into designers by solving problems in the environment that ensured our survival. They accomplished this through innovation, the mixing of disciplines, and through communication, storytelling, and technology. This experiential course examines the relationship between design and culture, design and craft, design as problem solving and as a “rational method,” and design in relation to entertainment and the role of entertainment in society. Course Objectives: -Analyze the diverse history of technology and media and how it is driven by art, through group discussions and individual research. -Investigate and identify an array of artists, scientists, hackers, and heroes that reside at the crossroads of art and technology through research projects and presentations -Speak about thier own work through th elense of historical context and theory around the use of technology as entertainment
