This advanced-level oil painting class is designed for experienced painters with a focus on realism, human anatomy, and the figure. This class will strengthen your practice and is geared towards anatomically correct figures.Students will explore classical and contemporary oil painting techniques including alla prima, imprimatura, glazing, dry brush, and the use of the Chris Payne technique for color studies and composition. Special emphasis will be placed on mixing skin tones from darker to lighter values. Students will work from complex palettes to limited palettes, gaining fluency in both. Prior knowledge of basic oil painting techniques and anatomy is expected. Course Objectives: By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Demonstrate and apply advanced oil painting techniques with a focus on realism and the figure. • Accurately render diverse skin tones using traditional oil pigments. • Demonstrate and apply the properties of oil painting medium and brush types, including but not limited to brush layering, blending, detailing, and texturing. • Experiment with slow and fast drying mediums including the exploration of sheen and transparency for high gloss and glazing. • Set up and direct a professional-level photo shoot with live models.
