AGA340/Studio/01 - Advanced Storyboarding & Animatics | Credits 3.00
This course builds upon the visual storytelling and narrative principles introduced in prior coursework in storyboarding or sequential illustration, advancing students' skills toward professional standards for feature animation, advertising, and film production. Emphasis is placed on script analysis, cinematic composition, dynamic camera staging, action sequence timing, experimental and innovative transitions, and effective pitching and presentation strategies. Designed for students with a strong interest in storyboarding, the course supports the development of a professional quality portfolio and prepares students for industry level storyboarding and previsualization workflows. Throughout the term, students will work from predetermined scripts and project concepts informed by historical and contemporary industry practices. These materials will be analyzed and translated into cohesive visual sequences that clearly communicate narrative intent while employing creative solutions to engage and sustain audience attention. Course Objectives: -Build on skillsets learned in previous courses that are demonstrated through the production and presentation of a storyboard or animatic -Utilize advanced digital pipelines to develop quicker production techniques -Analyze and translate a script from words to the visual language of the lens or camera -Identify and utilize transitions, cuts, and camera direction that enhance the visual narrative -Effectivly communicate, via visual shorthand, with animators and directors.
