|
Credits
3.00
This course examines the chronological development of graphic design, exploring how technological innovation, artistic and cultural movements, and social, political, and economic forces have shaped the discipline. Spanning from the mid-nineteenth century through the digital revolution, the course traces the evolution of graphic design from early typesetting and lithography to contemporary digital practices. Students engage with influential design movements through project-based learning, historical analysis, and critical discussion. While the course centers on European design history, it also considers modern multicultural influences, examining how graphic design has functioned as a powerful tool for propaganda, advertising, branding, personal expression, and social change.
