CPGR700 - From Practice to Page: Thesis Writing Se
This seminar is for graduate candidates in Community Practice who are preparing their written thesis. This writing-intensive course aims to help candidates find their voice in relation to their studio work, and to translate their research-gleaned both in the studio and in the academic literature-into its textual form. In this class, writing is viewed not only as art-historical reflection, but also as a professional tool to critically engage one's work in writing as an extension of one's studio practice. Writing is also a means through which the artist will present what informs and drives the work, situating the work within the broader contemporary field. The course is structured around short writing exercises, peer review, readings, and online discussion. Candidates will share their own writing process in class and take part in online peer-review sessions each week, as well as individual consultations with the instructor via Skype or email. The outcome of this seminar is the completion of the written thesis.
