Experimental Studio is designed to explore the formal, aesthetic and expressive possibilities in the interaction of various two and three-dimensional media, which will maximize the student's ability to express her ideas. This will be achieved through exposure to the work of contemporary artists and a rich dialogue between formal, material and conceptual experience. This course focuses on experimentation and conceptual development. It is intended to make students aware of the possibilities of building both a studio practice and an expressive vocabulary. Through class discussions, presentations and critiques, students will develop their abilities for critical thinking and expression. History, culture, materials and methods will be discussed as they relate to being used as sources and means of expression and understanding. Students will work across mediums with traditional and non-traditional materials and modes of expression. Based on the scope of a student's project or level of study there may be additional costs for materials and supplies. Satisfies: Major Requirement
