SEGR655 - Communication in Context
This course will introduce candidates to a wide range of tools for communicating in order to develop a socially-engaged art project or proposal. These practical skillsets will include active listening, facilitation, storytelling, oral presentation, documentation and narrative strategies. Through assignments and case studies candidates will learn how to interview, speak publicly, mediate conflicts, and communicate the story of a project from beginning to end. Emphasis will be made on how to adapt these skills to different contexts, acknowledge that the candidates will apply them in diverse situations requiring different time scales, resources and collaborators with relevance to working in both large institutions as well as independent practices. This course covers the professional practices associated with meeting facilitation and project documentation. The course will be taught in a way that is contextually specific.
