2013 Grad Fall Main Session
IDGR643/Lecture/01 - Design Specialty Research
|
Credits
1.50
This research allows students the opportunity to conduct an initial in-depth investigation into an area of design related to the choice of thesis topic. Students will demonstrate that the concept chosen is appropriate for the thesis topic. Students are expected to use a range of design research methods, including field surveys, literature and web-based searches of case studies and interviews with experts in the field in order to understand the functional requirements for the thesis topic. Investigations that go beyond current thinking and explore new concepts are encouraged. At the end of the study, a well-documented research paper that includes graphic material will be produced, which will become part of the thesis program document produced in the spring term. From this research, students will be prepared to develop their essential questions/proposals for thesis. Based on the scope of a student's project or level of study there may be additional costs for materials and supplies.
