An essential foundation for both certificate tracks, this course focuses on fashion basics, organizational dynamics, and career opportunities, including self-employment. Students investigate consumer demand, creative design, technical design, merchandising, production, and the retail market. Projects include developing a fashion line for a specific target market using up-to-date criteria. Students develop an understanding of important trends and designers, the life cycle of a garment from conception to delivery, fashion terminology, basic design elements, and digital media used to create fashion and technical sketches. No prerequisites.
